MARK ROLAND: MY RESPONSE TO THE 'HIT-AND-RUN' POST THAT MEN ARE THE RAPISTS AND MURDERERS IS SIMPLE: When anyone considers degrading men in our culture, remember the rescuers, in hurricane Katrina, and hurricanes, earthquakes, and forest fires across the land and across the decades.
MEN are the RESUERS...: ...and rapist and murders and looters and...

venom75: I know what it means and I'm a woman.
Longshanks: Sorry Wanda, nobody in their right mind is going to surrender to you, you are a total flake and a coward. Hiding behind pics that can't be traced back to a blog is pretty insidious. But hey, very few women even know what that means.
Bob: Best wishes
Who's winning?: THE CATS!
lucky_star: One way to get people coming to your journal is to start a debate that relates to everyone. Choose a side (whether you agree with that side or not) and let the fun commence!!!! Maybe Mark is doing a thesis for his PHD.
Longshanks: Mmmmmmmmmmm. pause for thought. Current yes. but everything changes so fast, we have to deal with what happens next, i.e. immediate future. conclusion must be ... women are winning right now. As for future, that depends who writes it. History is elastic, not necessarily truthful.
Wanda: Superior? All men seem to surrender to me the second they see me. Not a very strong species if you ask me!
Glen Dale the 3rd: I have a superior butt!
TAKEN ON THE WHOLE?: Then you agree with what the former tag wrote. You should change your title to "The natural superiority of men as it relates to an average sample mean taken from a random mean sample from the general public".

DO WOMEN ACT INFERIOR?

While TALKING the big game of "equality," do women ACT inferior? Is the attitude, "I am woman, hear me roar," all pre-game show and no go? 1. Do women ask men out as often as men ask women out? No, because women feel inferior. 2. Do women approach men before being introduced as often as men approach women? No, because women feel inferior. 3. Do women pay for both persons on the date as often as men? No, because women feel inferior. According to Warren Farrell, the author, women pay for the meal on a date 10% of the time. 4. Do women offer to care for and to support financially the husband for the rest of his life? No, because man runs the show. As Esther Vilar said in her book, MANIPULATED MAN, "A woman supporting an able-bodied man is virtually unknown." 5. Do women pave the roads, lay the roofs, build the bridges, repair the cars? No, because this involves hard, outdoor work, and women huddle in the protected professions like librarian, teacher, accountant, real estate agent. So where did the inane myth that "women are equal" come from? It is a way to get women working more in culture. Men pumped up their vanity to get them to work harder and longer. A MYTH (big lie for social purposes) is used to control people's behavior. TRUTH has the opposite effect. It frees people.

Hey Mark, Sorry, but this is where I have to just say wow, because most everything here you mentioned...I just do not see it much in the daily world I live in.

Being in retail industry for twenty years, I know so many women who own and run their business while the hubby stays home and watches the kids, or keeps them company in the back room of the office till he is needed to get a ladder or something (she being in a biz suit) that I could fill a dozen comment text boxes easy. Couple guys who lived with their mother till age 55, being married a few times and still not move out. 1 is 60 and he still gets an allowance. Eating out? It was always the wife who had the job that paid.

Even when I was in elementary school (almost 40 now) there would be a bunch of girls behind, pushing, going "Go on, ask him!" when there was some cute boy you wanted to sit with at lunch or have over for a party. Now that I run an esoteric book shop, am a shoulder for many, I can tell you, a LOT of women initiate things with guys these days, no back-up required!

Build houses and fix cars? Yup. You look at these groups who do community revitalization and the majority are women hauling out rotted sheetrock and swinging the hammers. Police officers. Pilots. More. And holy crap, you got to have MUSCLES to be a home health care aid!

Just wondering about these surveys. Did they just take data from people who answered the phone when called at home or actually go out to the busy people?

P.S. I open doors for people at restaurants and elsewhere. LOL Melissa

Sorry, just had to add another "P.S." here. :)

Realtor for our last place was a MAN. Know several of them in the biz. My second job it next to two offices. Possibly women do the job better (the lively, social ones, I mean) or I should say more in the public view' because they are more pro-active, engage in conversation, and like it or not, society has been raised to associate a home with a woman. Odd, because I know some male interior decorators (straight ones, thank you very much) with a heck of a lot more taste then their female counterparts.

Talk about a huddling career, if you look to the ART world, most of the professionals are male. Plenty of women out there, sure, but just try to get someone to promote them! LOTS of politics involved there. Even female authors have to use a male pseudonym to get published most of the time. Trying to understand how all that fits in with the vision of robust ‘manliness’.

Have never met a female accountant, only guys. Know a lot of male teachers at all levels, elementary to college professors. In fact, unless you plan to teach only young kids, forget about getting hired to teach if you are a woman. How come? Except for the big, inner cities of course, that job is more dangerous and they’ll take who they can get.

Know a lady who manages a rap group, and her biggest headache is trying to keep the "boys" from carrying guns everywhere. They actually, literally whine at her over this. It's quite pathetic.

As for staying huddled at home, boy oh boy, you should meet some of these ladies on vacation from the Peace Corps-type groups. Whew! You see some photos where "And this is what it looked like after the soldiers came through and shot all the livestock," well, I am sorry, I just don't see much 'huddling weakness' there.

Cheers,
Melissa

Hey Mark, good morning. No, am not looking for a repartee thing here, am ONLY telling of what I do see daily in my world, which seems to be an EXCEPTIONAL one. LOL! ;) Then again, I've not stepped inside a mall (shudders) in over 5 years and rarely watch television, so perhaps I am missing something. Such as the mainstream media.

Interesting note though, I am thinking most of these studies relate to American women. Several of those whose businesses I spoke of (with US husbands staying home all day) do seem to be non-native. Hindi, German and Iranian for the most part. Possibly in the retail aspect that we are in here, dealing with imports, that simply has become our norm. (Vice-versa, the US women I mentioned have to leave the country to be seen as capable. Hum.)

As for women not being capable of being the base laborers, one needs to look at countries like Africa, where it was traditional (along with MOST other indigenous peoples) for the women to do ALL the base labor of farming, building, fishing, child rearing, maintain livestock, washing, cooking, harvesting, tanning, clothe-making, weaving, cleaning, etc. et al.

So the guys, who mostly lazed around grabbed some local brew and went out en mass to smash in the skull of a deer now and then. Big whoop. What’s five minutes of ‘risk’ to all the real work which comes after?
Even Celtic women picked up the sword and chopped themselves some adversaries now and then. Lead troops, so so much for men required as protective warriors.

You know, it is quite fascinating to think that the current state of ‘normal’ affairs in the US IS a state of women seeing themselves as equal, because now there IS opportunity for a woman to be at home just sitting on her ass all day? Something most never had chance of doing before. Food for thought.

By the way, where would we be without Rosie the Riveters? My mother was a bartender and hefted many a keg in her life. Also remodels houses, you should see her work one o

...work one of these monster sanders, things bigger then herself. Whew! So yes, clearly women are most capable of all things physical, so it is a wonder if it comes down to men feeling threatened? As said, I know a police officer in New York (for one example) and not a dyke, she is still tough as they come. Not some ultra body builder either, though she faces loose dogs and crazed junkies daily with no problems. Still, in all professions seen as ‘manly’ you have to admit it takes a lot more effort to go against the group to maintain your equal position simple because you are a woman and are constantly told you are inferior and are forced to eat a lot of crap and separatism instead of supporting comradery.

So, is this all a matter of woman ‘can not’ do a job, or fact that they simply face too much opposition in the more labor-intensive workplaces? Situations reversed, doesn’t matter what is between the legs or not, a guy would quite as well. Also, not every single man out there is physically capable of dealing with those jobs either, else you’d never see one working as a store clerk.
Cheers, Melissa

Hi again Mark. Now that I've had a chance for tea, I've one further comment before starting my day. ;)

When I was in school I wanted to take a car maintenance course, for unlike most classes, this was actually something useful to learn. However, it is standard practice then when a girl takes one of these courses she is picked upon, teased and bullied as to make it unbearable. Not just by the other classmates, you commonly get this behavior from the instructors as well.

So again we must reiterate the question, is this the ‘girls’ fault, or a system of standatory gender bias, learned young by BOTH principles, which ensues for the rest of one’s life?

Again, I speak of those labor intensive jobs. Now, it would be great if everyone was a strong and determined ‘mold breaker’ however, most people are just that, plain, ordinary people, and life being so damn hard as it is, faced with such situation, who really needs to take on more hassles than they already must contend with in life? Just to live? Therefore, you take a job that pays the bills and does not bring on more ulcers. (If you are lucky.)

Cheers, Melissa
